Lies of the Devil- Printable

This might help with a last minute Sunday School lesson, or a youth activity.
Our kids are going to help us mark some Books of Mormon with these cut outs
before we give them away.

Below is a link for the printable page with some of the lies of the devil that are
exposed by the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon is a powerful tool in helping us recognize evil.

The Prophet's quote can be glued into the front of your Book of Mormon

Or you can use this as a guide and write them into your margins.

The printable can be cut up and lightly glued into the crease between pages.
It isn't glued down to the page in a way that would obscure the words, just tucked into
the crease with a little swipe on a glue stick first.

God blesses us with clarity through the Book of Mormon.

Note: If the printable doesn't open for you please feel free to comment or message me your email and I'm happy to send it with you.  Many employers have settings on their networks that would make it impossible to open at work.  If this might be the problem you may have better luck printing it from home.

Lies of the Devil

"The Book of Mormon exposes the enemies of Christ.  It confounds false doctrines, it fortifies humble followers of Christ against the evil designs, strategies,
and doctrines of the devil in our day."
-Ezra Taft Benson

Several years ago I started collecting the lies of the devil I found as I read the Book of Mormon.  I recently put a bunch of them together into a handout for a class I was teaching.  They would make a great last minute lesson for youth or adults. It's nice to have something printed up and ready at a moment's notice.

The first page is a collection of lies of the devil found in the Book of Mormon.  The second page, in the corresponding word bubble or shape is the TRUTH found in the Book of Mormon.  I was surprised to see how a solid understanding of the Plan of Salvation helped debunk most of the lies of the devil.  It reminded me of the importance of teaching the Plan of Salvation and reading the Book of Mormon in our home!

Symbols of God's Word

The scriptures use many symbols to illustrate the importance of reading and using the words of God, given to us in scriptures and through holy Prophets.  Studying these symbols can teach us how to better use the words of God we have been given.

"He who knows most about us, our potential, and our eternal possibilities has given us divine counsel and commandments in His instruction manuals- the Holy Scriptures.  When we understand and follow these instructions, our lives have purpose and meaning.  We learn that our Maker loves us and desires our happiness."    -M. Russell Ballard
The printable is available if you are interested in studying this more.  Even young children enjoy illustrating the things that they are learning about in the scriptures.

The Lies of the Devil

"Our families may be corrupted by worldly trends and teachings unless we know how to use the Book of Mormon to expose and combat falsehoods..."
-Ezra Taft Benson

The Book of Mormon exposes the enemies of Christ. It confounds false doctrines and lays down contention. (See 2 Ne. 3:12.) It fortifies the humble followers of Christ against the evil designs, strategies, and doctrines of the devil in our day. The type of apostates in the Book of Mormon are similar to the type we have today. God, with his infinite foreknowledge, so molded the Book of Mormon that we might see the error and know how to combat false educational, political, religious, and philosophical concepts of our time.
-EZRA TAFT BENSON  "The Book of Mormon Is the Word of God"
The quote by President Benson really caught my attention.  Maybe because he mentioned the danger to our families.  I would do anything to protect my family.  Since then as I've read the Book of Mormon I have watched for the lies of the devil, the "worldly trends and teachings" that have been used for ages to deceive God's children.  I recently transferred them to this graphic so they would be a little more interesting to look at.  I am going to print some blank templates off for the kids to put in their scripture journals so they have a place to record what they find.

Teaching our children the language of the scriptures!

I was reading tonight in Mosiah:
"And he (King Benjamin) caused that they (his sons) should be taught in all the language of his fathers, that thereby they might become men of understanding; and that they might know concerning the prophecies which had been spoken by the mouths of their fathers, which were delivered them by the hand of the Lord.  And he also taught them concerning the records which were engraven on the plates of brass, saying: My sons, I would that ye should remember that were it not for these plates, which contain these records and these commandments, we must have suffered in ignorance, even at this present time, not knowing the mysteries of God."           -Mosiah 1:2-3
King Benjamin taught his kids the language of the scriptures, so they could understand the scriptures and use them in their lives.  That's exactly what we are trying to do in our home!  Elder Bednar once mentioned how much of the Book of Mormon is counsel from parents to children (he typed it out and it came to more than 90 pages).  The Book of Mormon is a great resource for parents, written by parents, to help us bring our children to Christ.

The Armor of Righteousness

Yesterday morning, as the kids were getting ready to walk to school we heard sirens outside.  We couldn't see where they were since they had turned the corner, but they had come to take a neighbor's son to the hospital.  During the night he had overdosed on drugs, which is a problem that he has struggled with for years.  My heart hurts for his family.

I spent yesterday worrying about him.  How cruel addiction is!  One or two really bad choices as a teen and his life took a course that he hasn't been able to change.   As the afternoon wore on, and I worried about how to protect my own kids from danger like this I sat down with the Book of Mormon to prepare our scripture study for dinner.  (We talk about a chapter or two, I read a couple of verses, we ask questions to liken it to us, all while the kids are eating.)  We are starting 2 Nephi.  As I read chapter one, where Lehi is counseling Laman and Lemuel before his death, I found two concepts that really spoke to me.  First, in verse  13 Lehi reminds us that sin becomes the chains that bind us and drag us captive to hell.  I thought about this young man and his addiction.  Certainly he was being dragged against his will.  No one would choose to live like this.  Second, in verse 23 Lehi implores his sons to "put on the armor of righteousness".  Following the commandments of God is our great protection, and it is the great protection we can offer our children.  They have to understand that the commandments, more than a set of rules and restrictions, are the armor that will protect them from the attacks of the devil.

We talked about this at dinner.  I hope that they understand.  I pray that their hearts will always walk in the light of His love.  To really drive home the message we watched this video.  It is old, but it had enough action to hold the boys attention.

I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon.  Today I needed a lesson in arming my children and I found it in Lehi's words to his sons.

Bringing Men to Christ

The Book of Mormon brings men to Christ through two basic means. First, it tells in a plain manner of Christ and his gospel. It testifies of his divinity and of the necessity for a Redeemer and the need of our putting trust in him. It bears witness of the Fall and the Atonement and the first principles of the gospel, including our need of a broken heart and a contrite spirit and a spiritual rebirth. It proclaims we must endure to the end in righteousness and live the moral life of a Saint.
Second, the Book of Mormon exposes the enemies of Christ.

Contention Will Depart

“I feel certain that if, in our homes, parents will read from the Book of Mormon prayerfully and regularly, both by themselves and with their children, the spirit of that great book will come to permeate our homes and all who dwell therein. The spirit of reverence will increase; mutual respect and consideration for each other will grow. The spirit of contention will depart. Parents will counsel their children in greater love and wisdom. Children will be more responsive and submissive to the counsel of their parents. Righteousness will increase. Faith, hope, and charity—the pure love of Christ—will abound in our homes and lives, bringing in their wake peace, joy, and happiness.”
President Marion G. Romney, Apr. 1980, 90; or Ensign, May 1980, 67).

Greater Spirituality

More than at any time in our history, brothers and sisters, we have need for greater spirituality.

The way to develop greater spirituality is to feast on the words of Christ as revealed in the scriptures.
