Lies of the Devil- Printable

This might help with a last minute Sunday School lesson, or a youth activity.
Our kids are going to help us mark some Books of Mormon with these cut outs
before we give them away.

Below is a link for the printable page with some of the lies of the devil that are
exposed by the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon is a powerful tool in helping us recognize evil.

The Prophet's quote can be glued into the front of your Book of Mormon

Or you can use this as a guide and write them into your margins.

The printable can be cut up and lightly glued into the crease between pages.
It isn't glued down to the page in a way that would obscure the words, just tucked into
the crease with a little swipe on a glue stick first.

God blesses us with clarity through the Book of Mormon.

Note: If the printable doesn't open for you please feel free to comment or message me your email and I'm happy to send it with you.  Many employers have settings on their networks that would make it impossible to open at work.  If this might be the problem you may have better luck printing it from home.

Seminary Journal Printables

I was startled by the words of Jarom "What could I write more than my fathers have written?  For have not they revealed the plan of salvation? (Jarom 1:2)"  I had just read the words of his fathers- recorded by Nephi, Jacob, and Enos but I couldn't remember a single chapter on the Plan of Salvation!   I challenged myself to find the Plan of Salvation in the Book of Mormon and over the next year I recorded every reference to the Plan of Salvation that I could find in the Book of Mormon.

They were literally sprinkled throughout the Book of Mormon, and as I collected them in one place I developed a greater clarity and understanding of God's Great Plan of Happiness than I had ever had.

I developed this Seminary Scripture Journal Printable to help seminary students have a place to record what they learn about the Plan of Salvation as they read through the Book of Mormon.

The three-page printable has a title heading for many of the major milestones in the Plan of Salvation: Pre-Mortal Life, Satan's role, Creation, the Fall, the Atonement, Our Life Today, After we Die, Resurrection, the Millennium, Final Judgement and Eternal Life.  Each heading also has a little doodle that goes along with it to add some interest and maybe a little insight to the Plan of Salvation.

After the headings and doodles have been glued in you need to take a ruler and draw a line down the page to separate the references from "What I Learned".

Each heading can be given one or two pages.  You won't have any trouble filling two pages with scripture references, parts of the Family Proclamation, and relevant quotes from Latter-day Prophets.

Another powerful study I have done as I've read through the Book of Mormon is to identify the lies of the devil that are exposed in the Book of Mormon.  I've added to the printable the page headings and arrows needed to add this to your Seminary Scripture Journal too.  Look here for more information about the lies of the devil and the TRUTHS found in the Book of Mormon.

The Book of Mormon is such a blessing!

My prayers are with you as you teach from it this year.

Book of Mormon Sticky Notes- Free Printable

The Book of Mormon is such a powerful tool in our journey to return to live with our Father in Heaven.  The Book of Mormon has been given to us to be a:

LIAHONA,
SWORD,
SEED,
IRON ROD,
and a GIFT.

Prophets and Apostles have testified boldly of the divinity of the Book of Mormon.

These printable sticky notes are intended to help teach children and Seminary youth about the power of this most amazing book.  They can be used in scriptures or as journal prompts.

First, print the Template Page.  It is best if you can do this on a sheet of cardstock, but not necessary.

Second, place the sticky notes carefully lined up in the squares of the template page so that the sticky border will go into the printer first.

Third, send the sticky notes through your printer as you print the "Quotes Document".

If you don't have the time to print these on sticky notes you can print them on a regular sheet of paper and just use glue to stick them to a journal page or tuck them between the pages of your scriptures.

If you like the idea, but want to use it for your own quotes or ideas Google Doc has a template you can use to space and print your own quotes on sticky notes.  Easy peasy.

The Book of Mormon is our Liahona

These could be made in conjunction with a lesson on the liahona and serve as a reminder of the direction that we can find when we diligently study the scriptures.

Directions to make:

These print 5 to a page.  I used cardstock and contact paper to make them a little more durable, laminating would be nice too.  I distressed the edges with a black ink pad before adding the contact paper.   The compass charm was hot glued on so that it can be removed at the end of the year and added to a necklace, charm bracelet, keychain, or zipper pull.

The compass charm can be purchased inexpensively on Amazon and Etsy by searching "compass charm bulk".  They are cheaper if you plan ahead and allow a couple weeks for shipping.  I think I paid $10 for 30 with Amazon Prime.  I've seen them as low as 10 cents each with the longer shipping time.

Please let me know if you aren't able to access the document
and I'd be happy to email it to you.

Symbols of God's Word

The scriptures use many symbols to illustrate the importance of reading and using the words of God, given to us in scriptures and through holy Prophets.  Studying these symbols can teach us how to better use the words of God we have been given.

"He who knows most about us, our potential, and our eternal possibilities has given us divine counsel and commandments in His instruction manuals- the Holy Scriptures.  When we understand and follow these instructions, our lives have purpose and meaning.  We learn that our Maker loves us and desires our happiness."    -M. Russell Ballard
The printable is available if you are interested in studying this more.  Even young children enjoy illustrating the things that they are learning about in the scriptures.

Printable Book Guides for the Book of Mormon

My kids have come to know the stories of the Book of Mormon as we have studied them at dinner.  Now they need to be able to find the stories in their own scriptures.  To help with that I created book guides for most of the books in the Book of Mormon.  They are intended to make it easier to find the stories.  They are sprinkled with quotes, study ideas, a picture to color, a timeline, and some spots are left open for illustrations to help my kids develop a variety of scripture study skills.

The number on the left side of the guide is the corresponding chapter.

Timelines really help!

The pictures on the page are also in the margin of the right page in the Book of Mormon.
Bad picture, sorry.
Choose the "two-sided" print feature so it will print properly, it will print 3 pages (on both sides).
The pages are then cut exactly into quarters.

They aren't perfect, but I do think that they will be a powerful tool
as our family continues to learn from their scriptures!

Plan of Salvation Study Guide

“The great plan of salvation is a theme which ought
to occupy our strict attention,
and be regarded
as one of heaven’s best gifts to mankind.”
-Joseph Smith
History of the Church 2:23

During a lesson in Relief Society the teacher read the quote above about the Plan of Salvation occupying our strict attention.   I could draw the standard Plan of Salvation diagram with its circles and slashes with my eyes closed, what more was there to study?  It bothered me, until I discovered bits and pieces of the Plan of Salvation scattered throughout the Book of Mormon.  Jarom, a descendant of Lehi asks, "what could I write more than my fathers have written?  For have not they revealed the plan of salvation?" (Jarom 1:2).

The Plan of Salvation is given life and color and clarity in the words of the Book of Mormon!

I wanted a way that I could record these bits and pieces in a way that would allow me to study and learn more about each part of the Plan of Salvation.   I also wanted something that my kids could work on as they independently read the Book of Mormon (when they are a little older)- a way for them to find the truths of the Plan of Salvation in the Book of Mormon.

I ended up creating a study guide for the Plan of Salvation.  It can be filled out as a project, or just added to as you read through the scriptures.  I have mine in a three ring binder which allows me to add pictures, more pages, and conference talks that are illuminating, like this one!

The Plan of Salvation truly is "one of heaven's best gifts to mankind" and actively searching out the doctrines has helped me to see more clearly the things which God would have me do here on earth, and the person that He would have me become!

Scripture Journals

My mom taught me to love the scriptures without ever saying a word.  Sure, she taught me about the scriptures, and taught from them- but it wasn't until I was a young adult and woke up on top of a houseboat on Lake Powell that I really learned how valuable the scriptures were.  As the morning sunshine hit the boat and woke us up I looked out to see my mom walking back to the boat along the shore, as she came closer I could see that she had her scriptures.  I realized then that if my mom would search out a quiet spot to read the scriptures on vacation that she saw them in a whole different light than I did.

It has taken me years to begin to value them like my mom did.  It really wasn't until I recognized that my children would need a love and understanding of the scriptures to protect them that I started writing down my thoughts, printing off important talks, and putting them all together in a meaningful way.  My scripture journals are a tangible evidence of the love the Lord has shown me while I have worked to become closer to Him.

Here are some great resources for scripture journals:

The Red Headed Hostess
Her site really helped me to see exciting ways to journal!  She has some beautiful scripture journals for sale, including an amazing study on the Names of Christ that would be a great way to prepare for Christmas and Easter.  I prefer my three ring binders so I can add content at will, but hers are ready made.  She also shares lots of her pages so you can see ideas (the following pictures are from her website).

Latter-day Homeschooling
This is how I set up my scripture journals.  I love my alphabetical tabs ($5 at Walmart)!  She also has lots of free printable scripture journal pages that make it easy to hit the ground running.

That Good Part
She has several scripture study guides that helped me try new ways of studying.  I especially love her study of the Young Men and Young Women's theme: Stand in Holy Places.  She also has a free e-book all about effective scripture study.  I'm in awe of her crazy art skills too:

The Lies of the Devil

"Our families may be corrupted by worldly trends and teachings unless we know how to use the Book of Mormon to expose and combat falsehoods..."
-Ezra Taft Benson

The Book of Mormon exposes the enemies of Christ. It confounds false doctrines and lays down contention. (See 2 Ne. 3:12.) It fortifies the humble followers of Christ against the evil designs, strategies, and doctrines of the devil in our day. The type of apostates in the Book of Mormon are similar to the type we have today. God, with his infinite foreknowledge, so molded the Book of Mormon that we might see the error and know how to combat false educational, political, religious, and philosophical concepts of our time.
-EZRA TAFT BENSON  "The Book of Mormon Is the Word of God"
The quote by President Benson really caught my attention.  Maybe because he mentioned the danger to our families.  I would do anything to protect my family.  Since then as I've read the Book of Mormon I have watched for the lies of the devil, the "worldly trends and teachings" that have been used for ages to deceive God's children.  I recently transferred them to this graphic so they would be a little more interesting to look at.  I am going to print some blank templates off for the kids to put in their scripture journals so they have a place to record what they find.
